Comparison and Analysis (CASE STUDY 3)
[HONG KONG ARTICLE] Plan to let Hong Kong people join Chinese army shelved in wake of extradition bill crisis
[SINGAPORE ARTICLE] “Fairness, sense of purpose key to maintaining support for NS”
Both articles state about how each country, Singapore and Hong Kong (HK) report on their perspective views of serving national service. To support the main case study, which is the Hong Kong Protest and Singapore Little India Riot, in this case, we are using Singapore newspaper article, The Straits Times and Hong Kong newspaper article, South China Morning Post.

The table below are the comparison and analysis we did for this case study.

Overall, even though Hong Kong newspaper article, South China Morning Post is a centrist article while Straits Times is also a centrist article. Singapore’s report is more firm on the tone and usage of the word as compared to Hong Kong’s. Not only that, but Singapore’s report also seems to provides more statistics than Hong Kong’s report to increase its credibility. However, by quoting the opinion of the authorities, it is counted as Hong Kong’s report’s way to prove its’ credibility. For the Singapore report, it tends to include more benefits of the national service to ensure that the citizens continue to support NS, while for Hong Kong, it stated more of the personal opinions to get close to the heart of the people.
